Jaynes, Benter honored in girls hoops

Trinity Lutheran’s Sydney Jaynes was recognized as the top girls basketball player in District 3 in the seasonlong Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program for the period of Nov. 23-28.

Jaynes, a star front-court player for the Cougars, is scheduled to compete at NCAA Division I Butler next season. In one game against Providence in the week ending last Saturday, Jaynes scored 25 points, collected 11 rebounds, blocked nine shots and passed off for four assists. Versus Southwestern (Shelby), she scored 22 points and added 11 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Also nominated for the honor in District 3 was Brownstown Central guard Katherine Benter.
