Braves girls suffer first hoops loss of year

Columbus East opened up a 35-18 lead at the half and defeated Brownstown Central 65-48 in a girls’ non-conference basketball game Tuesday night in the Orange Pit.

The Olympians (3-3) held a 19-8 lead at the end of the first period.

Katherine Benter was high scorer for the Braves with 20 points and Maddy Hackman added 15. Hackman’s points came on five 3-point baskets.

Koryn Greiwe topped East with 24 points, and Maeleigh Roberts added 18 points on 6 3-pointers.

The Olympians made 13 3-point baskets to seven for the Braves.

The Braves (3-1) will open their Mid-Southern Conference schedule at home Friday night against Scottsburg.
