Jackson County United Way has introduced its 12 Days of Giving program.
During the days leading up to Giving Tuesday, the organization will be highlighting ways people can give their time, talent or treasure this holiday season.
It kicked off Friday with the Mental Health America of Jackson County Holiday Gift Lift. The organization is seeking sponsorships of $25 to assist in providing gifts to clients. Last year, the program served 197 clients. COVID-19 has changed the way the group is preparing for this Christmas season and how it’s providing for clients. Today highlights Sertoma Christmas Miracle and the Fraternal Order of Police Donald M. Winn Lodge 108’s Cops and Kids program.
Sertoma is collecting monetary and gift card donations for children. Gift cards can be bought at Big Lots or Shoe Sensation in Seymour for $35. Monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 841, Seymour, IN 47274.
The FOP is collecting donations through Dec. 10 to shop for kids. The cops and kids will be shopping Dec. 12. Coats, gloves, hats, etc. are picked out first for the kids before they shop for toys. Donations can be mailed to FOP 108, 205 N. Ewing St., Seymour, IN 47274.
Sunday will feature The Salvation Army. Bell ringers are being sought to collect monetary donations outside Walmart Supercenter in Seymour. Sign up online at registertoring.com.
Monday’s organization is Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Pantry in Seymour. Donations to stock the food pantry are accepted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Call 812-522-9308 upon arrival and a staff member will come out and pick up the donation.
On Tuesday, the Rock’n Ready eLearning school supply kit will be highlighted. As more Jackson County students go to learning from home, United Way wants to ensure they are equipped with the supplies they need. Pick up an extra pack of pencils, glue sticks or other school supplies while you’re out shopping and drop them by the United Way office at 113 N. Chestnut St., Suite 301., Seymour.
On Wednesday, help Blessings in a Backpack make holiday cards to be included in its weekend bags for children. Contact Pam Kindel for the delivery of the holiday cards at 812-871-4270 or email [email protected].
For Thanksgiving Day, help stock the Little Food Pantries and Shed for You community buildings. While grocery shopping, consider picking up additional nonperishable foods to drop off to a Little Food Pantry or Shed for You. Suggested items include canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned meats, boxed foods, blankets, gloves and toiletries.
On Nov. 28, the focus will be on United Way health funding. The goal is for everyone in the community to engage in healthy relationships and a healthy lifestyle. A person’s health impacts employment and productivity, academic achievement and financial stability.
Community partners in supporting the health area of United Way’s mission include Boys and Girls Club of Seymour, Child Care Network, Girls Inc. of Jackson County, Mental Health America of Jackson County, senior citizens centers in Brownstown, Crothersville, Freetown, Medora and Seymour, Meals on Wheels and Turning Point Domestic Violence Services.
The focus Nov. 29 is on United Way’s education funding. The goal is for everyone in the community to be supported and ensure children enter adulthood with the self-sufficiency and life skills they need to succeed.
Community partners with this mission include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Indiana, Boys and Girls Club of Seymour, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, Girls Inc. of Jackson County, Human Services Inc. and Read Jackson County and Plaza Latina.
United Way financial stability funding is the focus Nov. 30. The goal is for all families and individuals to be economically stable and resilient. Financial stability not only contributes to an individual and families’ economic stability but also to overall community well-being.
Community partners with this mission include American Red Cross, Anchor House, Boys and Girls Club of Seymour, Human Services Inc. and The Salvation Army.
