Thumbs-Up, Thumbs-Down – November 20

Remembering our heroes

Thumbs up to the veterans, veteran organizations, local schools and others for organizing Veterans Day events throughout the county. Veterans Day, which is Nov. 11 each year, is a good time to thank a veteran for their service and sacrifice. That’s something that could be done any day of the year, in fact, and even taken a step further by asking a veteran about their service.

Inspirational

Thumbs up to Crothersville seventh-grader Zoey Prince, who received a grant to open The Happy Tree Art Studio in Crothersville to provide people with an opportunity to express themselves artistically. Prince hopes to inspire others, no matter their age, to go for their dreams.

Above and beyond

Thumbs up to Heather, the manager of Parkview Apartments in Franklin, for going above and beyond helping my son, Austin. (Heather is from Seymour).

Students of the Month

Thumbs up to the Brownstown Central October Students of the Month. There are third-grader Gracie Singer, the elementary school’s Little Brave of the Month for good character; seventh-grader Jace Reaser, the middle school’s Student of the Month; and junior Grant Elliott, the high school Student of the Month for social studies.

All-state

Thumbs-up to all of the athletes who were named all-state at the conclusion of the fall sports season. The list includes Brownstown Central volleyball players Reagan Nuss and Kendra McCory, who were named to first-team all-state in Class 3A, and teammate, Kayla Guthrie, who was selected second-team all-state; and Trinity Lutheran volleyball players Kennedy Hoffman and Bailey Reynolds, who were named first-team all-state in Class A, and teammates Kamzi Gross and Sydney Jaynes, who were selected second-team all-state.
