There isn’t any place Ashlyn Fox would rather be after school in the fall than going to Hickory Hills Golf Club in Brownstown to work on her game.

“She was the leader of the team and kept us on the same page,” Braves coach Brandon Allman said.

Fox had an excellent season and career playing golf at Brownstown Central.

“Ashlyn has improved every season for four years,” Allman said. “She has advanced to the regional all four years — twice with the team and twice as an individual. Her goal was to help get her team to the regional, and she accomplished that.”

Due to her hard work and leadership qualities, Fox has been chosen as The Tribune’s Girls Golf Player of The Year for the 2020 season.

“She led us in eight out of 14 events (this fall),” Allman said. “She exemplified what it meant to be a leader in all aspects, both on and off the course.”

Fox was named Brownstown’s most valuable player. She averaged 100 strokes in tournaments this fall and averaged 48.7 in nine-hole matches.

“The 94 was my best tournament score,” she said.

She was the only Brownstown senior to play in the Mid-Southern Conference, sectional and regional tournaments.

Fox was so pleased with her showing she said she felt like she was on cloud nine after the Mid-Southern tournament. She shot 43 on the back nine for her low nine-hole score in a tournament.

“I had a personal record on the back nine,” Fox said. “Winning the tournament is so cool. I love having this feeling. I feel like we’re about ready to go to Disney World or something.”

Fox’s 94 came during the conference event when she led the Braves to the league title at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour. Fox finished third individually in the tournament in helping the Braves capture their first MSC title since 2009.

Fox shot a 104 in the sectional at Otis Park in Bedford, and she scored a 102 in the Washington Regional in Montgomery.

Other Braves named to The Tribune’s all-county squad were Payton Ault and Lexie Satterthwaite.

The three Seymour players selected were Lainey Jackson, Phoebe Skidmore and Liza Stuckwisch.

The Braves won the MSC tournament by 19 strokes as Satterthwaite shot 99 and Ault shot 103 and both earned all-conference honors. Ault and Fox had birdies in the conference event.

Ault averaged 101 for 18 holes with a low score of 97, and Satterthwaite averaged 106 and had a low of 99.

Ault shot 97 and Satterthwaite 111 in the sectional to help the Braves place second. Ault shot 104 and Satterthwaite shot 109 at the regional.

Kelsey Ault and Hannah Hackman were named all-county honorable mention.

Ault was named Brownstown’s most improved player this season and was MSC honorable mention, and Hackman received the team’s mental attitude award.

Jackson led Seymour in the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament at Floyd Central with a low score of 90.

She was named Seymour’s most valuable player at the Owls’ awards program.

“(Jackson) was our leader,” coach Jim Hoffman said.

Jackson averaged 46 for nine holes and 97 for 18 holes.

Skidmore was next for the Owls at the HHC with 94, and Stuckwisch shot 108.

Jackson shot 97, Skidmore shot 103 and Stuckwisch carded 112 in the sectional to help the Owls place third and advance to the regional.

Jackson scored 94, Skidmore 95 and Stuckwisch 123 in the regional tournament.

Skidmore received Seymour’s mental attitude award, and Stuckwisch was co-recipient of the most improved award at the team’s awards ceremony.
