City launches new website

The City of Seymour recently unveiled a new website at seymourin.org.

Designed to be a more user-friendly community portal, especially on mobile devices, the site launched Thursday.

It provides citizens with updated news about road closings, construction and other important information from city departments.

Features include a schedule of all city meetings and agendas, the local weather forecast, map-based location services for visitors, image galleries, language translation of content, online bill pay options and online reporting for citizen complaints and concerns.

There’s also a link to listen to the Seymour Moments podcast with Mayor Matt Nicholson.

Nicholson hopes the site becomes a more used resource for citizens and visitors to seek out answers to questions they may have about the city and its departments, services and amenities.

"Being mobile friendly with content that helps the user find the right phone number or email address is a huge plus," Nicholson said of the site. "We tried to help give better descriptions of what each department does."

The website, designed by Sweet Brier Media in cooperation with the city, also includes specific accessibility features, such as a screen reader for those with vision impairments.

Nicholson said there were several reasons the new website was needed.

"We’ve made changes in many different areas, and it made it a good time to launch a new site," he said.
