Local students are invited to participate in two contests sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Auxiliary.

A new singing contest called Celebrating the Red, White and Blue is for ages 6 to 16. Contestants must sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" verbatim without changing or adding or deleting any words. The soloist can perform in any genre they wish.

Contestants should video their performance and submit the entry to Barb Barger at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925 in Seymour by March 31, 2021, for local judging. Barger is chairwoman of the local contests and of Indiana’s VFW Auxiliary youth activities.

The local contest winner, sponsored by the VFW Post 1925 Auxiliary, will advance to the state level and compete for the state title to advance to the national division levels. There, they will compete for the national prize of a $1,000 Visa gift card.

There’s also a youth art contest called Illustrating America open to students in grades 1 through 8. Entries should depict what America is in the eyes of youth.

Contestants will compete in three different age levels: First and second grades, third through fifth grades and sixth through eighth grades.

Entries are due by March 31, 2021, for local judging. Winners in each age category will advance to the state competition, and the state winners in each age level will advance to the national contest.
