Laura F. Keyes plans to present a Facebook Live program about The Hershey Co. at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 on the Jackson County Public Library Facebook page, facebook.com/myjclibrary.

Keyes graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a master’s degree in library studies and has been presenting on historic topics for more than 10 years. She currently is director of the Dunlap Public Library District in Dunlap, Illinois.

Today, the name Hershey is synonymous with quality milk chocolate, but that wasn’t always the case.

Milton S. Hershey worked hard and failed often before his chocolate company was finally successful. And when he did become a household name and had earned a vast fortune, Milton and his wife, Catherine, decided to give it all away. Because of their generosity, tens of thousands of orphans have been saved, protected and educated.

People of all ages can attend Keyes’ illustrated lecture to hear the behind-the-scenes story of this beloved American company.

Keyes enjoys researching literary symbolism and is contracted to write a book on that subject.
