Brownstown volleyball ends regular season 19-11

Brownstown Central, the defending Class 3A volleyball champion, wrapped up its regular season last Saturday by going 2-2 in a Carmel tournament.

The results gave the Braves a 19-11 record overall going into Sectional play. They will be at Edgewood next Saturday.

Brownstown bested Noblesville, 25-21, 25-18 and Floyd Central, 25-19, 25-20, and lost to Bloomington South, 25-20, 25-16 and host Carmel winning the first set 25-21, before falling 25-23 and 15-13.

Kendra McCory came through with 11 kills and Jennifer Pence with 7 in the Noblesville win. Kayla Guthrie collected 11 kills in the Floyd Central win. Pence produced 14 kills in the Carmel loss and Guthrie totaled 7 kills in the Carmel defeat.

Seymour tennis doubles drops Sectional final

Brandon Hubbard and Andrew Levine advanced to the Sectional doubles championship match, but lost to Bloomington South’s Marcel Borhi and Ethan Uhls, 6-0, 6-1.

The Owls duo won their first two matches of the Sectional, but were beaten in 31 minutes last Saturday in the elimination showdown that kept them from reaching the Regional.

IHSAA soccer contested in Seymour

Columbus East defeated Jeffersonville 2-1 in the Class 3A Sectional at Seymour High and Providence whipped Henryville 8-1 in the Class 1A Sectional played at Trinity Lutheran.
