John William “Bill” Combs, age 86, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Combs attended Brownstown Church of the Nazarene.

He graduated from Clearspring High School in 1952, and he retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle in 1989. He loved spending time with his family, especially his devoted wife, Bonnie, of 65 years. He also loved spending time with his friends, hunting, fishing, going to Florida during the winter months and watching baseball and I.U. basketball.

Born on March 26, 1934, in Maumee, he was the son of Oscar and Donna Edwards Combs, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 20, 1955, he married Bonnie Black and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include one daughter, Debra (Dennis) Upchurch of Lafayette; one son, Dale (Kim) Combs of Valrico, Florida; one granddaughter, Sara Upchurch of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandsons: John (Aimee) Upchurch of Essex Junction, Vermont, Troy Combs of Valrico, Florida, and Drew (Tanya) Combs of Valrico, Florida; four great-granddaughters: Aura Upchurch, Taylor Combs, Alexandra Combs and Emily Combs; two sisters-in-law: Joella (Joe) Gallion and Betty Combs; brother-in-law, Roger (Madeline) Black; cousin, Tom Combs; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

Funeral services for Bill Combs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2020, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Tim Lichtley officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. will be practicing social distancing according to CDC guidelines. Masks are required when entering the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Robertson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Medora Goes Pink (HOPE) or Donor’s choice.
