Soccer sectionals begin Monday

Indiana high school soccer championships get underway with sectional play for boys and girls starting Monday and concluding Oct. 10.

The Seymour boys open the seven-team Class 3A Seymour Sectional on Monday against Floyd Central at 6 p.m.

The Seymour girls play their first game in Class 3A against Floyd Central at the six-team Floyd Central Sectional at 5 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran’s girls soccer team is at Providence High School on Oct. 7, a four-team Sectional for Class A, scheduled to meet Austin at 7 p.m. Following the first two games Wednesday, teams wait to play again for the championship Oct. 10.

Trinity’s boys are in a seven-team Class A sectional at home starting Tuesday at 7 p.m. versus Austin. Play is spread over Oct. 5, 6, 7 and 10.

These are the 27th annual Indiana High School Athletic Association tournaments, and there are 299 boys teams and 266 girls teams entered. There are 16 sectionals in each tournament. State championships in each class are decided Oct. 30 and 31.
