City and county police recently arrested people suspected of dealing methamphetamine in Jackson County.

Officers with the Seymour Police Department arrested Dwight Weddel, 37, of Seymour and Keisha Canada, 25, of Seymour early Friday morning. Both were preliminarily charged with dealing methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony, and possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. They also face misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

According to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster, the two were arrested by city and county investigators, and officers executed a Jackson Superior Court I search warrant at about 7:15 a.m. Friday at a garage being used as a residence behind a home in the 300 block of South Broadway Street in Seymour.

Investigators had previously developed probable cause that methamphetamine was being dealt from the location, Foster said.

During the search, officers arrested Weddel and Canada after finding more than 45 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value to $4,500, Foster said. Police also discovered more than 75 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of $1,000, more than $1,700 in U.S. currency and numerous drug paraphernalia items, Foster said.

The investigation into this case is still ongoing, he said.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department officers arrested Ashley Dillman, 35, of Medora on Saturday. She faces a charge of dealing methamphetamine, a Level 4 felony, and was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear for a domestic battery charge.

Sheriff Rick Meyer said in a news release that narcotics officers received a tip Dillman was dealing illegal drugs in Medora. With the assistance of Seymour detectives, they began their investigation, in which they were able to conduct multiple controlled purchases of methamphetamine from Dillman.

Dillman was arrested by county Officer Aaron Wilkins during an unrelated traffic stop Sept. 12 on the warrant and taken to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.

When the investigating narcotics officers learned she had been arrested, they added the Level 4 felony dealing charge.

A Level 2 felony carries a sentence of 10 to 30 years in prison with an advisory sentence of 17½ years, while a Level 4 felony carries a sentence of two to 12 years with an advisory sentence of six years if convicted.
