The Glass Recycling Coalition awarded Rumpke Waste and Recycling the gold level certification for its Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio, material recovery facilities.
This designation acknowledges Rumpke’s material recovery facilities have achieved the highest level of glass precleaning as outlined by the Glass Recycling Coalition application, according to a news release from Rumpke.
“Environmental sustainability is a core pillar of our company mission,” said Bill Rumpke Jr., president and chief executive officer of Rumpke. “We continue to invest in recycling and look for innovative ways to put material to good use. Over the last 10 years, we made significant investments to operate some of the most technologically advanced recycling systems in the Midwest.”

Rumpke is the only landfill operator and recycler in the country to operate its own glass processing facility, according to the news release.
Each year, the glass recycling center processes between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of glass, keeping it out of landfills and putting it to beneficial use to produce products like home insulation and new glass containers.
Rumpke Waste and Recycling is one of the largest family-owned waste and recycling firms in the country with regional operations in Columbus and Medora. The firm employs 3,200 people and provides residential, commercial and industrial waste and recycling services to millions of customers throughout Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.
Rumpke owns or operates 14 landfills and is a recycling leader in the Midwest with 11 recycling facilities, including a one-of-a-kind glass processing facility in Dayton. In all, Rumpke maintains a fleet of about 2,000 vehicles and boasts about 60 locations.

The Glass Recycling Coalition brings together a diverse membership of nearly 40 companies and organizations representing glass container and fiberglass manufacturers, brands that use glass to showcase their products, haulers, processors, material recovery facilities and end-markets to make glass recycling work.
Established in April 2016, GRC is a noncompetitive coalition of U.S. value chain members involved in glass recycling and dedicated to supporting the most accessible and viable glass recovery and recycling options for consumers. The coalition encourages financially sustainable mechanisms that produce quality cullet and strengthen glass markets.
