Three injured in golf cart crash

Officers with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the scene of a crash involving a golf cart and a passenger van Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 2 p.m. at county roads 700W and 300N in Geneva Township, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a golf cart was traveling northbound on County Road 700W and failed to stop at the intersection. The golf cart struck an eastbound Ford Econoline van that was approaching the intersection.

A juvenile and an adult male who were traveling in the golf cart sustained injuries and were transported by helicopter from the scene to Riley Children’s Health at IU Health and IU Health Methodist Hospital, both in Indianapolis, with critical injuries, police reported.

A second adult male on the golf cart was transported from the scene to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. The occupants in the van were uninjured.

Personnel with Jennings County Emergency Medical Services, Scipio-Geneva Township Volunteer Fire Department, Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and StatFlight helicopter assisted with the investigation.
