A shooting on the city’s southeast side has left two residents injured, police said.

According to a post from Lt. C.J. Foster on the Seymour Police Department’s Facebook page, the department received a call at 9:43 p.m. Tuesday stating that two individuals had been shot at a home at 330 S. Vine St.

Foster said officers located two individuals with gunshot wounds at the scene who were later airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Police did not release the names of those injured and do not know their condition at this time.

After obtaining a search warrant, Foster said officers were able to find numerous bullet casings, bullets and bullet fragments as well as other items of evidence in the case.

One individual at the residence told police they heard a knock on the door. When the door was opened, an individual wearing a hoodie and displaying a weapon opened fire, shooting through the door multiple times, Foster said.

Seymour Police Department Public Information Officer Jeremy Helmsing said the shooter had prior contact with the victims, so they do not believe it to be a random act of violence.

The incident is currently still under investigation, police said.
