Two injured in crash north of Seymour

A crash on Lower Rockford Road ended with one man being transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour and another being airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.

According to a news release from Indiana State Police Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, Albert “Ernie” Ball, 72, of Seymour was traveling northbound on County Road 760E around 2 p.m. Thursday when his 2018 Chevrolet Equinox traveled into the southbound lane of the road for an unknown reason.

Ball then collided head-on with a 2004 Ford F-350 truck pulling a tandem axle trailer being operated by David M. Weghorst, 66, of Columbus, said Wheeles who is public information officer for the Versailles Post.

Ball was trapped in his vehicle before being freed and airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with serious injuries. Weghorst was taken to Schneck after he complained of minor injuries and was later released.

Wheeles said alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and toxicology results are pending.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Seymour Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, Seymour Fire Department, Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department, St. Vincent StatFlight and Hampton Towing.
