Seymour movie theater sets new reopening date

Seymour’s Regal movie theater is planning to welcome back customers next week.

The reopening originally was set for July 31 but got pushed back.

The theater is now scheduled to reopen Aug. 28, manager Nicole Maki said.

"Our opening date has changed a few times so far, but we will be opening to the public on Friday, Aug. 28," Maki said. "We will be practicing social distancing, and employees will be wearing masks."

Regal employees also will be sanitizing any surfaces the customers touch and sanitizing the auditoriums after each movie showing, Maki said.

Regal announced the closure of all of its theater locations beginning March 17 as a precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic. The theaters have remained closed since then.

With the Seymour theater’s reopening scheduled to take place soon, Regal has posted its health and safety procedures online at

Reopening plans include a wide range of new health and safety measures based on guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other public health organizations.

According to the Regal website, guests will be required to wear face masks at all times while in the lobby, hallways and restrooms.

A reduced menu offering will be temporarily available at the concession stand, and refills on large drinks and popcorn will be suspended for now.

Guests will be encouraged to proceed to their auditorium as soon as possible and exit the theater in a timely manner at the conclusion of their movie.

Masks can be removed inside the auditorium only while eating and drinking. Employees will monitor auditoriums throughout each performance as standard practice.

Patrons will be requested to leave two seats between groups, and group sizes will only be limited where required by a state or county mandate.

Regal continues to work closely with the relevant authorities, and safety measures will be constantly monitored and adjusted according to the requirements.

Movie tickets also will be available to purchase online starting today.
