Police warn public of incident at ATM

The Seymour Police Department is notifying all residents to avoid or use extreme caution when visiting ATM locations after dark.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, at 3:55 a.m. today, a person was using a drive-up ATM at Centra Credit Union, 520 S. Jackson Park Drive, Seymour, when they were targeted by an unknown man with a handgun hiding in a nearby back yard area.

Police said the man quickly approached the window of the vehicle after the victim retrieved $200 and attacked them, striking the victim in the face with the handgun and then grabbing the cash from his hands.

The man then ran to the rear of the property and was last seen on surveillance in the 600 block of Miller Lane, police said.

The man is described as having a light complexion and a thin build and wearing a winter toboggan and striped gray shirt. He is approximately 6 feet tall and has a tattoo on the bottom of his left wrist.

Police said it’s believed the man was working alone during the commission of this crime.
