NORTH VERNON

Phillip Mickel Thixton, age 72, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020, at Majestic Care Nursing Home, North Vernon.

Phil was born in Seymour on December 31, 1947, the second of three children born to Raymond and Alice (Peachee) Thixton, both of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Thixton was a graduate of Columbus High School, Class of 1966. Phil worked for the City of Columbus for many years. He later moved to North Vernon and lived there for over 30 years.

Phil was a true sports fan of basketball, both at the high school and college level. He loved watching Indiana University Basketball. Not only would he watch the games, but he would always have a score book at his side. He also loved baseball and was a true Cincinnati Reds fan. He was so proud to have attended the baseball game in St. Louis, along with his brother, Vic Thixton, when Ken Griffey, Jr. hit his 500th home run. In his earlier years, Phil was an avid softball player and truly loved playing the game.

For the last 18 months of his life, Phil resided at Majestic Care Nursing Home. It truly became his home. He loved the staff and greeted them daily, dancing with them in the halls. They inspired him as he danced with them. We are forever grateful for the kindness and care they provided to him.

His son, Michael Thixton, preceded him in death in August, 2016. He is survived by his two brothers: Vic (Cindy) Thixton of Seymour and Rodger Thixton of Jacksonville, North Carolina; one step-brother, Gregg (Theresa) Galbraith of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; and three grandchildren.
