International Overdose Awareness Day is Aug. 31.

To bring attention to the issue and remember those lives lost to overdose, an event will take place that day at 6:30 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park in downtown Seymour.

The guest speaker will be Laura Nowling, and Jen Hopkins of Seymour will be performing. Nowling, who now works for Centerstone, will share her family’s stories of the impact of drugs and the death of her son to an overdose.

A butterfly release will be conducted in remembrance of loved ones.
