Minor injuries were reported after an accident Thursday evening in Seymour, police report.

The incident was called in as a personal injury wreck at the intersection of West Tipton and Walnut streets at 5:47 p.m.

According to a report by investigating officer Blake McCrary with the Seymour Police Department, Courtney Deckard, 25, of Vallonia was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion westbound on Tipton Street approaching the intersection of Walnut Street and was messing with an auxiliary cord for her cellphone when she struck a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica van driven by Linda Flinn, 71, of Seymour.

Police said Deckard had the red light at the time and Flinn was traveling northbound through the intersection on a green light.

After Deckard’s vehicle struck Flinn’s van, the van went airborne before rolling on its side, Lt. John Watson said in reading McCrary’s report.

Seymour Fire Department personnel had to extricate Flinn from her van, and she and Deckard were treated by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene and released.

Watson said both drivers were wearing their seat belts and had very minor injuries, according to McCrary’s report.
