Bedford’s Johnson grabs Brownstown race

Greg Johnson of Bedford won his first super late model feature of the year July 18 at Brownstown Speedway.

Shelby Miles of Bloomington finished second, followed by Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh, Jeff Roth of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Zak Blackwood of Columbus.

Miles came back to win the pro late model feature race as he remained unbeaten for the 2020 racing season in the division. Miles has won all four features contested this year. Marty O’Neal of Spencer finished second, and Keegan Cox of Franklin was third. Completing the top five were Brad Barrow of Bloomington and Tyler Neal of Paragon.

Tim Rivers of Salem captured his first career Brownstown Speedway modified feature race to become the seventh different winner in seven races this season. Jacoby Hines of Trafalgar was second, followed by Cole Falloway of Owensboro, Kentucky, Mark Lamont of Crossville, Illinois, and Shawn Negangard of Osgood.

Veteran racer Mike Fields of Scottsburg won the super stock feature for the first time this year to become the sixth different winner in the six feature races the class has run this season.

Jamey Wilson of Seymour placed second to Fields ahead of Tucker Chastain of Bedford, Steve Hollars of Bloomington and Colton Sullivan of Columbus.

Eric Lewis of Corydon won the crown vics division over Phillip Boudreaux of Salem, Billy Heil of New Albany, Bill Grant of Clarksville and Brandon Cranmer of Charlestown.

Columbus Go-Karts

The Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing held programs July 17 and 18 at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Winners from July 17 were James Hill (Yamaha), Maddi Morgan (jr. 1), Calli Lucas (jr. 3), Johnny Smith (rwyb) and Devin Smith (clone 340).

The class winners from July 18 were Buddy Wilson (flathead), Kyle Thayer (clone 400), Cole Hunt (pro purple) and Chris Buchanan (clone 365).

Racing will continue tonight on the 1/5-mile track with gates opening at 1 p.m. and practice at 5:30 p.m.

Jennings County go-kart results

The Jennings County Outlaw Kart Racing, which conducts events at the Jennings County 4-H Fairgrounds in North Vernon, had 103 total karts on hand for its July 17 racing program.

Division winners were Kevin Cunningham (rwyb and flathead divisions), Travis Wilburn (400 clones), Evan Shatto (jr. 3 clone), Corey Vanover (sr. clone champ), Aaron Fields (limited open), Jacob Chadd (jr.), Bobby Young (380 clone), Layden Burton (boxstock outlaw), Jake Roell (jr. 1), Ryker Williams (jr. clone champ), Zach Roell (rookies), Connor Perry (youth champ) and Colby King (340 clone).

New winner at Lawrenceburg

Texas native Anton Hernandez picked up his first 410 non-wing sprint car feature July 18 at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

Nick Bilbee finished in the runner-up position, followed by Garrett Abrams, Garrett Aitken and Korbyn Hayslett.

Brad Wieck of Cincinnati, Ohio, won the modified feature race over David Spille, Matt Hamilton, Scottie Williams and Kyle Schornick.

Lawrenceburg will next run its leg of the 2020 USAC Indiana Sprint Week on Sunday night.

Hopkins wins at Paragon

A.J. Hopkins won the sprint car feature July 17 at Paragon Speedway.

Jake Scott finished second ahead of Jaden Rogers, Colin Parker and Travis Berryhill.

Jordan Wever of Bloomington won the open wheel modified feature over Derek Groomer, Jeff Deckard, Jake Leitzman and James Walters.

Tyler Neal won the super stock feature over Josh Litton, Wes McClara, Bryce Shidler and Kyle Johnson.

2020 USAC Indiana Sprint Week

USAC Sprint Week kicked off Friday night at Gas City I-69 Speedway. Racing continues tonight at Kokomo Speedway and Sunday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

he remaining schedule will be July 29 at Terre Haute, July 30 at Putnamville, July 31 at Bloomington and Aug. 1 at Haubstadt.

From July 25, 1970, at Brownstown Speedway, Teako Ray won the feature race over Jim Curry, Gene Sutton, Don Hobbs and Bob Fleetwood.

Also from 1970 at Bloomington Speedway, Calvin Gilstrap won the sprint car feature over Rex Mitchell, Bob Kinser and Gene Henson.

From 50 years ago at Paragon Speedway, there were two sprint car feature races. Gene Henson won the first over Larry Miller, Allen Barr, Frank Hollingsworth and Danny Bowlen. Miller came back to win the second feature over Bob Kinser, Hollingsworth, Mike Bowlen and Butch Wilkerson.

From 1980 at Brownstown, Paul Crockett won the late model feature over Jim Curry, Ira Bastin, Doug Ault and Roger Absher. John Mull won the hobby stock feature over Kenny Dewig, Cooley Singer, Jeff Hehman and Doc Jewell. Mont Scaggs won the street stock feature over Jack Turner, Buck Campbell and Scott Patman.

From 1980 at Charlestown Motor Speedway, Billy Childers won the late model feature over Pat Patrick, Ira Bastin, Dusty Chapman and Russ Petro. John Mull won the hobby stock main event over Tony Moore, Steve Trabue and Bobby Carrier Sr. Willie Sallee took the street stock feature over Larry Plessinger and Don Walp.
