Staff reports
Zion Lutheran School will start onsite instruction for preschool and kindergarten classes for the 2020-21 school year Aug. 6.
A child’s actual start date will vary depending on what day(s) of the week his or her class meets.
The extend care program reopened May 11 and also will be available during the school year.
For parents who were waiting to enroll their children due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is still time to enroll at Zion.
“The staff wants to assure parents that the health and safety of the children, families and school staff are of the utmost importance,” a post on the school’s Facebook page reads.
Safeguards and procedural changes have been implemented to minimize the risk of spreading the virus. That includes:
Requiring parents to prescreen a child’s health condition at home before attending school each day
More thorough tracking of absences, isolating sick children and abiding by quarantine periods
Onsite daily temperature checks
Modified drop-off and pickup procedures
Implementing social distancing when possible
Requiring staff and recommending students (age 3 and older) to wear masks when social distancing is not possible
Lunchroom modifications to limit number of students eating together
Modified classroom layouts to aid in social distancing
Increased handwashing and more frequent sanitation protocols
Plans to provide educational services during a class or school closure
Cancellation of all large group family activities and school field trips until further notice
More details are being sent to the families of enrolled children before the start of school.
In the meantime, anyone with questions can call 812-522-5911 during the school’s summer office hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
