BROWNSTOWN

Shirley Ann (Denny) Snapp, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully at Schneck Medical Center surrounded by those who loved her. She was 78.

Shirley entered this life on July 10, 1942 in Seymour, Indiana. She was the only child born to the late Walter and Winona (Perkins) Denny.

Shirley spent most of her life in Jackson County. She graduated from Brownstown Central and then went on to Indiana State to earn her undergraduate for teaching. She later went back to college to earn her master’s degree at Indiana University.

Shirley was a 4th grade teacher for Brownstown Elementary until her retirement in 2000 after 36 years. She loved her students and loved teaching. Shirley would often tell stories about her students and how they loved her as a teacher as much as she loved them. She worked for the Brownstown Greenhouse for over 15 years. Shirley also worked at Zabel Funeral Home greeting and taking memorials for families for over 20 years. She also worked with the Schneck Hospital Guild for almost 20 years.

Shirley was a diehard IU fan and very proud to be a graduate of IU. She loved to play Bridge. Shirley would never turn down an opportunity to play Bridge. She could often be found at the local Bridge Party catching up with the local news.

Shirley was a member of Vallonia Christian Church, a member of the Brownstown Chapter of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Beta MU Chapter of Psi Iota Xi of Brownstown.

Shirley is survived by many, many friends who loved her and will continue to cherish her memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may visit on Saturday July 18, 2020 from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Zabel Funeral Home of Brownstown.

A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery of Brownstown on Saturday July 18, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Chris Criminger officiating.

Memorials in Shirley’s name may be written to Vallonia Christian Church or Psi Iota Xi of Brownstown.
