VALLONIA

Virginia “Carol” Wheeler, 84, of Vallonia, died at her home at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2020. She was born on February 2, 1936 in Sparksville, IN to the late Russell & Evelyn Shultz Lawson. Carol attended Medora High School & was a member of the Vallonia Christian Church.

She married James “Jimmie” Wheeler in Vallonia on August 29, 1952 and he preceded her in death on August 31, 2002.

She had been a member of the Eagles and the Ladies Auxiliary. She retired from Canfield’s/Panasote and was the Driftwood Township Trustee for 28 years. Carol loved spending time with her family, playing bingo, crocheting and sewing, going to the Medora Senior Center, & being involved with her volunteer work at the Hoosier Christian Village.

Survivors include her children, Tina (Dan) Bailey, Roger Wheeler, Missy (Grant) Moncrief, Jamie (Troy) Hill, & JoAnn (David) Hill; grandchildren, Gregory Rebber, Rachael (Josh) Henson, James Ty Wheeler, Aaron Wheeler, Matt Duchaine, Elliott Himebaugh, Brandi (Brandon) Newcomb, Kerri (Brett) Bevers, Nathan Toppe, Jacob (Julie) Toppe, Logan (Brittney) Hill, & Richie Hill; several great grandchildren; a sister, Annalee Duncan.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers-Max, Johnny, Dick & Joe Lawson and a sister-Juanita Palmer.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home with Chris Criminger and Jay Grider officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Schneck Medical Center Hospice, Hoosier Christian Village, or Vallonia Christian Church.

Johnson Funeral Home will be practicing social distancing according to the CDC guidelines and masks are encouraged to be worn during your visit to the funeral home.
