The Jackson County Young Artists’ Theatre’s summer workshop is on.

This year’s workshop for ages 6 to 18 will be conducted in a single-day format for each age group with all activities at Starve Hollow State Recreation Area, 4345 S. County Road 275W, Vallonia.

Sessions are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 27 for ages 6 to 9, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28 for ages 9 to 12 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29 for teens. Registration begins June 15. The registration link will be sent out via email and posted on social media.

The workshop will allow students to grow in a variety of aspects of theater and the arts, and best of all, it’s free thanks to continuing support through the Arts in the Parks grant program through the Indiana Arts Commission and Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Participants learn skills including stage basics, movement, projection, diction, characterization, improvisation and technical aspects.

Typically, students can audition for a summer performance during the workshop, but summer shows have been put on hold for 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
