The Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus Division of Health Sciences annual advisory council met virtually via Zoom on May 20.

The annual event brings together community partners to acknowledge outstanding performance of university nursing student scholarship recipients and clinical site preceptor of the year honorees.

Dana Prieto with Schneck Medical Center in Seymour was one of six Preceptor of the Year Award recipients. The award recognizes the role preceptors play in nursing education and is given to volunteer instructors from each of the clinical partner hospitals who work with IUPUC students. 

Besides the awards ceremony, health sciences directors Carrie Shaver and Dr. Lisa Homer provided quality update measures and performance, and the division head, Dr. Beth Sharer, provided updates on past recommendations, program accomplishments, faculty, staff and student accomplishments and solicited feedback and recommendations from community members and clinical partners.

The program also featured a COVID-19 response from IUPUC’s Division of Health Sciences and gathered information on collaborations with hospitals for a COVID-19 safe return to clinicals.
