Mr. Mervin Oakes, 82, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at his home. He was born in Jabez, Kentucky to the late Orvis and Icey (Carender) Oakes.

Private family funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Thursday, June 4. Private family burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Mervin was retired from Meadows Metals in Columbus, Hoosier Parts & Bob Poynter Chevrolet. He was a 49-year member of Washington Masonic Lodge #13. He enjoyed cruising around in his ’48 Chevy with his dog, Buddy as well as socializing with his many neighbors.

Mervin is survived by his son, Denny (Cindy) Oakes; grandchild, Demi Oakes; brother, N.E. (Joyce) Oakes; sisters, Drette Miller and Sharon (Ron) Brock; and sisters-in-law, Karen, Mildred and Ruby Oakes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Oakes, R.V. Oakes; Clyde Oakes; and sister, Lucille Lane.
