Mrs. Shirley Ann Compton Shade, 96, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Lutheran Community Home. She was born to the late Ray T. and Elizabeth M. (Steinberger) Sullivan.

Private family funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 3. Private family burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Shirley was a member of Central Christian Church in Seymour.

In 1943, she married Benson T. Compton who preceded her in death August 5, 1982. In 1985, Shirley married Oren F. “Bud” Shade and he passed away February 8, 2007.

Shirley was a long time employee of Indiana Telephone Company. Shirley was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 89 and VFW Auxiliary Post 1925. She joined the Ladies Auxiliary of Post 1925 in June of 1969. She was Auxiliary President from 1987 to 1989 and became a Lifetime Member in June of 1987. Shirley served as Auxiliary Chaplain and 9th District President from 1994 to 1995. From 1999 to 2009, she served as the Department of Indiana Ladies Auxiliary VFW Assistant Soloist.

Shirley is survived by her son, Douglas (Theresa) Compton; grandchildren, Ray Compton and Alisa Bennett; great-grandchildren, Bailey Bennett, Jordan Bennett and Ryleigh Compton; stepchildren, Michael Shade, Patrick Shade, Philip Shade, Rex Shade, Sheila Zumingst; 14 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; and second husband.

Memorials may be written to Central Christian Church, St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Parkinson’s Foundation, Disabled American Veterans or Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.
