Jean H. Briner Hoevener, 90 of Seymour passed away at Lutheran Community Home on May 5, 2020. Baptized at Presbyterian Church in Crothersville, Indiana on February 27, 1930, Jean was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a past greeter and President of Aid #1.

She was a 1947 graduate of Crothersville High School. Born February 3, 1930 in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Pearl Kurtz Briner. On April 27, 1952, she married Avis James Hoevener at Crothersville, Indiana at the Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death June 20, 2008. They made their home in Seymour, Indiana. She worked in the offices of the U.S. Shoe Corporation in Crothersville, Seymour Farm Bureau and retired from the John C. Groub Company in 1988 after 33 1/2 years.

Jean and her husband traveled extensively. She enjoyed her church, family, reading, puzzles and working in her flower beds. Her neighbors and friends were important to her.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Geneva, Betty, Charlotte and Wilma and brothers, Charles and infant Robert, one sister-in-law and five brothers-in-law. Surviving to cherish her memory are her brother, Ronald (Dorothy) Briner of Columbus, her sister, Geraldine Barnes of Scottsburg, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. James Rodriguez officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana.

Memorials may be given in Jean’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church at Burkholder Chapel.
