A Bartholomew County man was arrested Wednesday morning on a murder charge.

Few details about the arrest of Tobias E. Au, 30, of Hope were made available.

Au, who was arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 11:43 a.m. Wednesday and was being held without bond pending his initial court hearing.

According to a news release from Lt. Adam Nicholson with the sheriff’s department, police responded to a report of a shooting in the eastern part of the county at 5:37 a.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived, they found a deceased man, and Au and a witness to the shooting were interviewed, Nicholson said.

According to the county police incident log, a man reported he had shot a man who was violating a protective order at an apartment in the 2700 block of Bent Tree Lane in Seymour. That call was received by dispatch at 5:39 a.m. Wednesday.

Nicholson said more details will be released at a news conference planned for 1 p.m. today at the sheriff’s department.
