First Indiana free fishing day set for Sunday

0

The first of four Indiana free fishing days this year is scheduled for Sunday.

On these special days, residents can fish without a license or trout-salmon stamp on state waters.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources encourages Hoosiers to take families fishing as a bonding exercise at a time when waters are warming up after a cold winter and spring. In a statement, the department said the fishing bite should be good at this time of year.

Anglers are reminded to continue to practice social distancing rules given during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Fishing opportunities are available in state parks, state forests, fish and wildlife areas and recreational areas.

The other free fishing days on the calendar for 2020 are June 6 and 7 and Sept. 26.
