Superintendent Terry Goodin said he hopes to have the position filled soon after May 20.

On April 3, Greg Kilgore submitted his resignation as athletic director, junior-senior high school aide and golf coach and retirement as boys basketball coach.

Goodin said it would be great to find one person to fill those positions, but it will depend upon the applications received and how the school referendum vote goes in the June 2 primary election.

The resignation followed the 52-year-old Crothersville resident’s arrest March 25 on a preliminary Level 5 felony charge of child solicitation.

Detective Mark Holt started the investigation March 18 when the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a report from the Jackson County Department of Child Services about possible inappropriate messages being sent through social media from a school employee to a 14-year-old female student, police said.

During the course of the investigation, police learned inappropriate messages were sent from Kilgore to the girl.

Due to content located in the messages, Kilgore was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.

He appeared in Jackson Circuit Court on March 25, Judge Richard W. Poynter set his bond at $1,000 cash March 26 and ordered him not to have contact with the juvenile and bond was posted April 2. His pretrial conference is set for 10:30 a.m. May 28 in Jackson Circuit Court.

Kilgore had been employed by the school corporation as an aide since August 2008. He had been the boys basketball head coach since the 2012-13 season, amassing a record of 77-111. Before that, he was the junior varsity coach. He then started coaching golf in 2015 and became athletic director in 2016.

In early March, Crothersville defeated Edinburgh and West Washington to win the Class A Sectional 62 at Edinburgh High School. The Tigers made history by winning the school’s first boys sectional title in its 105 years in the Indiana High School Athletic Association.

They were set to play top-ranked Barr-Reeve in the Loogootee Regional on March 14, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the state tournament series.

Kilgore’s resignation was unanimously approved by the board of trustees during a meeting April 13.

Trustee Linda Luedeman asked if the corporation might get involved in the court case at some point.

“I don’t see how,” Goodin said. “As soon as we found out the information (about Kilgore’s arrest), we moved forward quickly, and we followed the proper protocol with the state. At that point, then it’s out of our hands, so that’s why the legal stuff, we don’t have any involvement in because it’s no longer a school issue. … He’s no longer employed by our school. We don’t have any responsibility or obligation to him in our system.”

Goodin also said Robinson supervised when Kilgore returned to the school to get his belongings and turn in any school property he had.
