North Vernon man arrested after holding teens at gunpoint

A North Vernon man has been arrested for holding three teenagers at gunpoint inside a Country Squire Lakes home, police report.

Alphonso E. Barnett, 50, is facing charges of burglary with a deadly weapon, a Level 2 felony; criminal confinement with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony; intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony.

According to a news release from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, officers took a report Sunday afternoon from the teens that a neighbor in Country Squire Lakes forced his way into a home where they were located and held them at gunpoint and threatened them before leaving.

Barnett was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Jennings County Jail in North Vernon Sunday evening. His bond is currently set at $4,055.
