All Jackson County court trials scheduled through April 15 have been canceled.

The Indiana Supreme Court recently approved that action at the request of Jackson Circuit Court Judge Richard W. Poynter, Jackson Superior Court I Judge AmyMarie Travis and Jackson Superior Court II Judge Bruce MacTavish.

According to the order, a decision regarding whether or not further cancellations are needed will be need to be made no later than April 8. 

Poynter said Tuesday he doesn’t believe there is anyway jury trials can be conducted until at least the middle of May so he anticipates he, MacTavish and Travis will ask the Supreme Court to extend the order until May 15.

All civil proceedings in the county courts also have been suspended through April 15. The exceptions to that order are petitions for protective orders and all delinquency, mental health commitment and emergency CHINS proceedings.
