Community invited to honor late Marine

U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Hunter Brown, 21, died March 17 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

His family is going up to Indianapolis today to retrieve his body and will return to Seymour around 6 p.m.

People are invited to stand outside their vehicles and abide by the social distancing rule along the route to support the family and pay their respects to Brown.

The route will travel down State Road 11 from Interstate 65, turn on Sixth Street and then go to Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Home, 419 N. Chestnut St., Seymour.

A private family service is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday. Brown will be laid to rest with full military honors at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Bloomington. A public memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

From noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, people can drive by the Seymour Chamber of Commerce, 105 N. Chestnut St., to pick up a carnation with a personalized card to take to the funeral home and place on the wire fence. The carnations are sponsored by the chamber, American Legion Post 89 and Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre.
