Mr. Richard (Rick) Shutters, 63, of Seymour passed away at his home on March 26, 2020. He was born on February 19, 1957 in Indianapolis, IN to Richard Glenn Shutters and Mary Carolyn (Dickson) Pohlman . He was later adopted by his grandparents Dr. & Mrs. Dale D. Dickson.

Rick is survived by his wife, Karla Shutters; Mother, Carolyn Pohlman; children, Kourtney (Brandon) Simmons, Karrie (Josh) Hayes, Kelsey Shutters (Jeremy Kleber, fiance) and Kraig (Katlyn) Shutters; brothers, Pete Shutters, Patrick Shutters and Kris Pohlman; sister, Patti Brown; step mother, Ruth Shutters; grandchildren, Cole Simmons, Lorali Simmons, Logan Hayes, Marley Hayes, Peyton Hayes, Brayleigh Hayes, Laikyn Hayes, Hunter Kleber, Kendrick Shutters and Kallen Shutters; aunts and uncles, brother and sister-in-laws, several nieces and nephews.

Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, father; sister, Kimberly Feehley; niece, Autumn Feehley; in-laws, Rodney and Fairy Fosbrink.

He was a 1975 graduate of Greensburg High School and received a Bachelors degree from Purdue University. He moved to Seymour to work for Farm Bureau Co-op. Seymour is where he met and married his wife of 37 years Karla (Fosbrink) Shutters on June 12, 1982 at First Baptist Church. He went on to become store manager and then owner of The Ark Book and Gift of Seymour. He later became a 24 year employee at R.R. Donelley in Seymour, where he retired in 2018.

He was an Eagle Scout and spent his high school summers at Culver Academy. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Seymour where he had served as a deacon, Wednesday night children’s helper and member of the Voice of Praise. He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Colts, Cubs and Purdue, which he passed onto his son. He loved receiving text message pictures of all of his grandkids (four-legged ones included).

Due to social distancing, a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
