A 43-year-old motorcyclist sustained head trauma in a crash Monday evening in the Cortland area.

Eric Scott Jackson of Seymour was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment after the crash on County Road 425E but has since been released, according to a news release from Officer Aaron Wilkins with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

Police said a witness told investigators that after passing Jackson, his motorcycle left the west side of the roadway, struck a tree and then slid across the roadway, eventually stopping on the east side of the road.

Jackson was treated by Jackson County Emergency Medical Service personnel before being flown to Indianapolis.

Police said Jackson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and speed could have been a contributing factor. Toxicology results are pending.

Wilkins was assisted by county officers Zach Elliott, Justin Amos and Dakota Burke along with medical and emergency personnel with the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department.
