COLUMBUS

Walter L. Goss, 86, of Columbus, passed from this life at 1:21 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Mr. Goss was born September 28, 1933, in Freetown, Indiana, the son of Chester and Florence McElfresh Goss.

He married Goldie M. Ritter, July 14, 1962.

Walter retired from Reliance Electric after 32 years of service.

A U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, serving his country from 1953 to 1957.

He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed working in construction and hanging out at Jill’s Diner.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 58 years; daughters, Brenda (Brian) Gilbert of Columbus and Sue (Shawn) Long of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew and Abigail Long; brothers, Joe (Delores) Goss and Chester Goss Jr. both of Freetown; and his sisters, Lucille Bane and Mary Lou (Earl) Carr both of Brownstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Thelma Bell and Opal Davey.

A graveside inurnment service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Garland Brook Cemetery in section 83 with the Rev. Roy Hendershot officiating.

Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
