The Columbus Fire Department recently announced the hiring of firefighter Travis Quillen.

Quillen, a 2003 graduate of Seymour High School, was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop at a city board of public works and safety meeting Tuesday at Fair Oaks Mall.

The 35-year-old will undergo a fire department familiarization training program. After completing this training, Quillen will receive a shift and station assignment.

He joins the department with six years of firefighting experience with the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department in Jackson County.

Quillen, a 2007 graduate of Purdue University, holds a Bachelor of Science in building construction management.

In addition to being certified as an emergency medical technician and having basic and firefighter I and II certification, Quillen also is a Stop the Bleed instructor.

With the hiring of Quillen, the Columbus Fire Department is currently at the department’s full staffing of 95 sworn firefighters.
