John H. Taylor, age 70, of Brownstown, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Taylor was a member of Norman Christian Church.

John was a member of the United States Army, and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was employed with Jerry Hall Lumber Co. and also worked at local sawmills. He loved spending time with his wife, loved his dogs, and also enjoyed doing mechanical work.

Born on August 25, 1949, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Wilburn and Goldia Lewis Taylor, both of whom preceded him in death. On December 15, 2007, he married Joanna “Jodi” Mikels and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include two sons: Jerry (Mistie) Taylor of Oolitic, and Doug Taylor of Heltonville; one daughter, Joni (Brad) McPike of Brownstown; one brother, Carl Taylor of Norman; two sisters: Ruth Taylor of Norman and Mary Prewitt of Seymour; six grandchildren: Dayton Taylor, Brooklyn Turner, Zaidyn Taylor, Lucas McPike, Keegan McPike, and Braylynn McPike.

In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by brothers: Dale Taylor, Dean Taylor, Wayne Taylor, Merle Taylor, Gale Taylor, and infant brother, Danny Lloyd Taylor.

Funeral services for John H. Taylor will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2020, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Michael Magruder officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2020, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Vets 7.

Memorials may be given to Norman Christian Church.
