Local teams to compete in robotics state championship

Jackson County will be well represented at the third annual Indiana VEX Robotics State Championship.

Eleven elementary, middle and high school teams will be among the competitors Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, 500 S. Capitol Ave., Indianapolis.

Immanuel Lutheran School’s state qualifiers in the elementary division are third-graders Adam Alberring and Christopher Pumphrey, 520G; fourth-graders Daniel Bode and Sam Parisi, 520K; fourth-graders Brody Keith and Dane Gillaspy, 520E; fifth-graders Chloe Rudzinski, Zoe Croquart and Noah Lawrence, 520Z; and fifth-graders Emory Helton and Rylan Adair, 520C.

Immanuel’s only middle school team qualifying for state is sixth-grader Lauren Bode and seventh-grader Kade Gillaspy, 520R.

Also in the middle school division will be Brownstown Central Middle School eighth-graders Cody Burnside, Dustin Brewer and Alli Dillard, 98098C, and eighth-graders Colton Whittymore, Conner Wynn and Luke Imlay, 98098G.

In the high school division, Trinity Lutheran will be represented by Team 1483S consisting of sophomores Conner Sims and Simeon Bauman, Team 1483J consisting of sophomore Preston Kovener and juniors James Thomack, Kash Siefker and Nick Tucker and Team 1483A consisting of sophomore Dylan Green.

TechPoint Foundation for Youth hosts the competition, which will be the largest state championship in the country, gathering more than 360 teams from elementary, middle and high schools across the state, according to techpointyouth.org/statechamp. Teams will compete for a chance to earn their way to the world championship in Louisville, Kentucky.

This event is open to the public. Doors open to teams at 7:30 a.m. and the general public at 9 a.m. The opening ceremony is from 9:30 to 10 a.m., and robot matches for all divisions start at 10:30 a.m. The event ends at 6:30 p.m.
