Braves down Pekin in OT

Brownstown Central outscored Eastern (Pekin) 10-4 in overtime to snag their third Mid-Southern Conference victory of the season 48-42.

The Braves held a slim, three-point lead heading into the final period, but were held to just eight points in the stanza allowing the Musketeers to climb back into the game.

Senior Isaiah Wineinger took over in overtime, scoring seven of the Braves’ 10 in the extra period. He finished with a team-high 15 points.

Aiden Schroer added eight with half of them coming in the opening quarter. Clay Chastain scored seven, Eli Brown had six, Carter Waskom netted five and Carson Darlage tallied three.

Kiernan Tiemeyer and Lucas Hines rounded out the scoring with two each.

Thursday’s results

Seymour’s Layne has top seed at sectional

Seymour senior Trevor Layne took the top seed in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.59 during the Thursday night sectional prelims at Highland Hills Middle School. 

He also takes the fifth spot in the championship heat of the 50 freestyle, coming in with a time of 23.32 seconds. He also led off the 200 freestyle relay to a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:36.89, and swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay for fifth with a time of 1:51.12.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Paul Montgomery, Grant Smith, Ethan Dippold and Aiden Jent scored the fourth seed for Saturday’s championship heats with a mark of 3:53.57. 

Other Owl swimmers competing for sectional titles and a spot at state are: Bryce Miller (200 freestyle), Clayton Greenawalt (500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke) and Jackson Land (500 freestyle).
