Owls fall short of semistate

For the second year in a row, Semyour’s Jake Rotert made it to the "ticket round" at 160 pounds at the Evansville semistate.

Again, Rotert battled until the bitter end, but came just short of qualifying for the state. Losing to Southridge’s Sam Schroeder by 6-2 decision, Rotert surrendered four points in the first period, kept his top position through the second, but couldn’t score enough points to keep his state dream alive in the third.

Earlier in the day, Rotert won a convincing 6-0 decision over Evansville Memorial’s Aiden Farmer.

Teammates Nate Banister (132) and Sam Castetter (126) had tough opening bouts, losing both of them by fall in the first period.

Castetter, a sophomore, will be the lone semistate qualifier returning for the Owls next season.
