Two Medora men were hospitalized in Indianapolis after they were injured when their vehicle hit a tree head-on early Saturday morning.

Police arriving at Main and Elm streets in Medora reported finding Phillip Acton, 31, lying unconscious on the ground outside the Ford Five Hundred he was driving, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Officer Jordan Hawn.

Police also found Tucker Brewer, 24, trapped in the front passenger seat of that car, Hawn reported.

Personnel with the Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department used extrication tools to free Brewer from the vehicle.

Both Brewer and Acton were treated at the scene by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services personnel before being taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. They later were transferred to Methodist Hospital, police said.

Hawn said officers weren’t sure if Acton was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, reported at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, or if he was able to climb out of it.

From evidence gathered by police and witness statements, high speed was likely a factor in the wreck, Hawn reported.
