Trinity Lutheran outscored Brown County 8-3 during the final 4 minutes and 34 seconds of Friday night’s girls’ game for a 54-47 win in the Bollinger Athletic Complex.

The Cougars made 8 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter and were 15-for-20 for the game.

“That will win you a lot of games,” Trinity Lutheran coach Mike Lang said in talking about his team’s free throw shooting in the fourth quarter.

Bailey Tabeling had a basket and two free throws and Hannah Sabotin made three free throws and had five rebounds in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles opened up a 9-2 lead after three minutes of action before the Cougars went on a 11-6 run to close the gap to trail 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Kailene Cockerham made a 3-pointer for the Cougars in the first period.

Trinity opened the second period on an 8-0 run to lead 19-15 and to a 29-all tie at the half.

“We were tied 29 at the half and I didn’t think we played bad,” Lang said. “We got the looks we wanted offensively but Allison Stogsdill and Abby Fleetwood are fast. We got caught on a couple screens. We made an adjustment to go 3-2 zone and took a chance of them of beating us down low.”

Sabotin had three baskets and seven rebounds, Tabeling scored three baskets and Sydney Jaynes had two field goals in the second quarter.

Trinity shot 13-for-30, and Brown County was 12-for-28 from the floor during that time.

Sabotin topped the Cougars in scoring in the first half with nine points and Tabeling scored eight.

Fleetwood topped the Eagles with 10 points.

Lang said his team beat a solid opponent.

“They’re good and fast,” he said. “We’ve got to prepare ourselves for what we’re going to see at tourney time.”

Sabotin topped the Cougars (19-2) with 15 points, Tabeling scored 14, James scored 11, Cockerham added eight, Emma Schepman added four, and Emma Goecker added two.

Sabotin topped the Cougars with 17 rebounds.

Fleetwood topped the Eagles (13-3) with 19 points.

Brown County won the junior varsity game 29-17.

Genesis Munoz is Trinty’s leading scorer with seven points, Hannah Durham, Emma Schepman and Katelyn Schepman scored three each, and Kayla Goecker added one.

The Cougars will be off until Thursday when they host Floyd Central.
