Girls Basketball

Eagles down Tigers in SAC showdown

Lanesville outscored Crothersville 44-23 over the final three quarters to win 60-34 on Saturday afternoon and secure the top spot in the Southern Athletic Conference.

Makayla Helt and Addy Cole each scored 10 points to pace the Tigers with Rebekah Cook adding six. Makinzee Isley chipped in four, while Kennadi Lakins and Grace Wilson each added two. 

Isley also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. 

Boys Basketball

Owls fall to Bloomington North

Seymour hung tough with the Bloomington North Cougars, but fell 45-40 in a close game at Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium.

Eric McCoy led the Owls with 15 points and scored nine of those in the first half. Casey Regruth added 10 points and was the only other Owl player in double figures. Regruth was 4-for-5 from the field against Bloomington North.

Rounding out the scoring: Jayden Brown scored seven, Colin Madden chipped in four, and both Landon Fritsch and Marcus Brooks scored two.

Henryville edge Cougars 

The Trinity Lutheran Cougars suffered their second consecutive close loss on Saturday night, falling to the Hornets 50-46. 

Jack Marksberry led the Cougars with 13, while both Mitchell Hackman and Tyler Goecker both scored 11. Hudson Norton added six and Jose Rowe chipped in five. 

Swimming

Floyd Central sweeps Seymour

Maren McClure grabbed the lone win for the Owls on Saturday afternoon as Seymour battled the Highlanders in the Seymour Aquatic Center.

McClure won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes and 24.24 seconds. The Owls fell to the Highlanders 133-50 in the girls’ meet and 143-42 in the boys’ meet.

Runner-up finishes for the Owls came from: Katya Cox in the 500 freestyle, Abby Boyt in the 100 breaststroke, McClure in the 100 butterfly, Trevor Layne in the 50 freestyle, Bryce Miller in the 100 freestyle, the girls’ 400 freestyle relay team and the boys’ 200 medley relay team. 

Wrestling

Owls dominate at Brown County

The Seymour wrestling team went 4-1 at the Brown County duals on Saturday morning, picking up big wins as they inch closer to the postseason.

The Owls defeated Western Boone 57-18, Brown County 42-38, Victory Prep 66-0 and Whiteland 42-39. Their lone loss came to Jasper 49-28.

Sam Castetter and Jake Rotert both went 5-0 on the day, while Sam Chandler, Nate Banister, Ben Kriete and Jake Kriete all went 4-1. 

Ro Baltazar and Brody Shipley went 3-2; Adan Mora, Alex Schlatterer and Lalo Bustos went 2-3; and Chase Rogers and Hector Ruiz both went 1-4.

Boys Basketball

Dugger edges Medora 

Medora came close to winning their second game in a row on Friday night, but fell to Union Dugger 55-53 in overtime. 

The Hornets had four players in double figures with Bryce Guffey leading the charge with 16 points. Isaiah Myers dropped in 13, Jayvin Spurgeon scored 11 and Caleb Sturgill scored 10 to round out the double-digit efforts.

Braxton McCory rounded out the Hornet scoring with three.
