To the editor:

Mental Health America of Jackson County had another record year in 2019 serving 197 clients at our annual Christmas Gift Lift.

Five employers in Seymour and Brownstown participated by setting up Angel Trees allowing their employees to select a client and purchase gifts for them. The remaining gifts were purchased through donations received from individuals and businesses.

Attendees were served supper, visited with Santa and Mrs. Claus, had photographs taken, and opened gifts. Volunteers helped with transporting gifts, preparing and serving food, decorating, set-up and clean-up. In addition, food items, gift items for clients and caregivers, and the use of our event location were all donated. Our clients are truly blessed by our community.

Mental Health America of Jackson County works to educate and promote the awareness of all aspects of mental health and to support those affected by mental illness.

We are a United Way partner. For information about MHAJC, to volunteer, or to make a donation, call 812-522-3480 or email [email protected].

With sincere gratitude.

Melanie O’Neal

executive director of the Mental Health America of Jackson County
