Scottsburg steamrolls Seymour

Scottsburg placed five players in double figures and rolled to a 73-44 win over the Seymour girls basketball team Tuesday night in the Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium.

The Warriors opened a 9-3 lead midway through the first quarter before Aidan Hiester hit a 3-pointer for the Owls.

After Alyssa Perry scored, the Warriors scored eight straight points to open a 17-8 game.

Eliza Cash made a 3-pointer and Grace Meyer made a layup, but the Owls trailed 21-15 at the end of the quarter.

Jaylah Mays’ third basket of the game gave the Warriors a 28-18 lead at 5:50 of the second quarter.

After Meyer made a 3-pointer for the Owls, the Warriors scored the last 11 points of the half to take a 39-21 lead.

Scottsburg shot 17-for-33 from the floor in the first half, while the Owls were 7-for-18.

Seymour had 10 turnovers to four for Scottsburg in the first half.

The Owls outscored the Warriors 7-6 through the first three minutes of the third quarter before the Warriors went on a 13-3 rally to take a 58-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

Meyer topped the Owls with 13 points, Cash scored nine, including two 3-pointers, Hiester and Grace Schrader scored eight each, Perry added five and Kaylee Waskom scored one.

Mays topped the Warriors (11-6) with 19 points, Riley Pool added 13 and Hannah Stutsman scored 11.

“Obviously, they paid a lot attention to film the last couple games, and they knew that we are struggling defensively against the push,” Seymour coach Jason Longmeier said. “I thought Mays really pushed the ball on us, and they got the ball down the court, and early on, they started getting some confidence, and they played as a confident team.”

The Owls finished with 12-for-37 shooting from the floor had 21 rebounds with Meyer leading with eight.

Scottsburg shot 31-for-65 and had 23 rebounds.

Seymour committed 22 turnovers to 14 for the visitors.

Kendrick Sterling’s 3-point basket with three seconds remaining gave Seymour’s junior varsity a 54-52 win.

Eliza Cash topped Seymour with 16 points, Brooke Trinkle scored 10, Emilee East and Sterling had nine each, Kaylee Waskom scored eight and Cali Cummings added two.

Seymour (5-13) will host Columbus East on Thursday night for a Hoosier Hills Conference game.
