Seymour men arrested during burglary

Two Seymour men were arrested by police investigating a burglary in progress Sunday morning in western Jackson County.

Gregory Lee Davis, 38, and Ricky Joe Stewart, 39, both face preliminary charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief after the incident reported at U.S. 50 and County Road 500W.

According to a report from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Officer Jesse Hutchinson, a person called dispatch and said they had witnessed two men kick in a door to a residence.

When police arrived, they found a vehicle parked in the driveway and two men in the house. Those men, later found to be Davis and Stewart, were arrested.

Hutchinson said during the investigation, police found several items had been taken from the house and placed in the vehicle.

Davis and Stewart were booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 9:54 a.m. Sunday and continued to be held there Thursday without bond.

Burglary is a Level 4 felony, punishable by two to 12 years in prison upon conviction. The theft and criminal mischief charges in this incident are Class A misdemeanors.
